Thoughts of you

a little wild galaxy.JPG

This lovely card is for my father. Way back in the 1960’s he used his very clever brain and talented hands to make his very own telescope! From honing the mirrors and lenses, grinding the gears to follow the earth’s rotation and finely sanding and varnishing the case for long term protection. My very early memories include standing in the backyard studying the craters on the moon and tracking Venus across the night sky.  It is with great joy that I created this galaxy card to share with you today.

It was very simple to do and I am sure many colour combinations are possible ( thinking also for Sunrise and Sunset). I used Elegant Eggplant card stock and die cut a circle in Whisper White card stock using  Stitched Shapes Framelits {145372} being careful to save the stitched circle for another project! Before securing the white card stock to the front of the card I created the galaxy effect using two Sponge Daubers. {133773} I proceeded to dab Tempting Turquoise from the ink pad {126952} around the area where the circle would line up. I didn’t cover all the area as I was aiming to ensure I had a mix of layered colours at the end. I then used White Craft Stampin Ink {145406} to create the lighter colour, again not trying to cover the whole area but rather smattering of light. Finally, I added a little more Tempting Turquoise which appears in its true colour over the top of the white. This will result in four shades in your galaxy. The real WOW appears when you adhere the white card stock on the front of your card and it looks just like a galaxy from a telescope or observatory window!  I added stars punched out using the now retired Star Border Punch from Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper {135315}. You could just as easily use Metallics Sequin Assortment {144214}. The lovely stripe that is reminiscent of constellations is from the new Pick a Pattern Washi Tape pack {144166}. The subtle water coloured bear is from the stamp set A Little Wild {144344}, die cut very simply using the Little Loves Framelits Dies {143743}. Do you own a Big Shot Die Cutting Machine yet? I have had mine for years and use it ALL the time! Contact me to find out more about why you need this in your life and how to get it at a massive discount!!!

The front of the bear is inside the card, sitting on another of the washi tape patterns from the same set.

The entire layout was inspired by p101 of the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalogue. I love that the catalogue is so much more than a shopping list! The inspiration truly is endless. I follow along with a wonderful group of creators that share a blog hop every Sunday (Case The Catty Sunday). This week was showcasing the Love and Sympathy section, pages 86-101, of the 2017-2108 Annual Catalogue. #CTC142

While the card I am showing you is a birthday card, I made one identical on the outside for a dear friend whose wife passed away recently. For me the galaxy scene represents how closely we are all interrelated and connected for ever.

I hope your creative projects bring you joy while creating and sharing. Please leave a comment and share this post with your friends. Feel free to use this inspiration for your own crafting and let me know how you go!
